Yo, George, how about a return on our investment? I'm sorry, but I'm not falling for Bush's "Operation Iraqi Independence" scam. The satisfaction of knowing that we're keeping the world safe for the just and noble cause du jour just ain't cutting it any more. I want to know what tangible reward "We the People" are going to get out of his little Military-Industrial Complex sideshow. After all, we did bankroll their so-called "liberation" with our hard earned tax dollars, all umpteen-million high explosive tons of it. I think it's time that we saw a return on our investment in all those grossly overpriced weapons of mass destitution. Accordingly, what I want to know is whether the puppet government we foist on Iraq is going to be truly friendly to the American people (per se). I mean, sure, we're gonna' allow the Iraqi people "choose" (yada, yada, yada) - just like we allowed them choose Saddam Hussein. Just like we allowed the people of Iran to choose the Shah, Cuba to choose Battista, the Philippians to choose Marcos, Panama to choose Noriega, Chili to choose Pinochet, Haiti to choose the Duvaliers, and Vietnam to choose the Diem brothers, ad nauseam. The question is, are we gonna' allow them to choose a puppet dictator friendly to the American people, or a puppet dictator friendly to the "Oil Cartels" (OPEC and the Texas Oil Barons). Friendly
to the American people would mean flooding the market with enough Iraqi
oil to drive prices down to around five dollars a barrel. Friendly to
the "Oil Cartels" would mean playing ball with OPEC until they
drove the price of oil so high that it would cost the average American
a week's pay just to mow the lawn - at which point Bush's buddies down
in Texas would uncap their wells and start pumping oil again. |
